Uchu Sanango (Tabernaemontana sananho)

About the plant

Uchu sanango (Tabernaemontana sananho) is a tree up to 6 m in the Apocynaceae family, Amazon basin. Glossy dark green leaves, white star-shaped flowers. Contains alkaloids (coronaridine, heyneanine, ibogamine, voacangine, etc.). In the Upper Amazon used for rheumatism, arthritis, fever, digestion, wounds; Shipibo and other groups use it for hunting (luck, concentration), for eyes, toothache, in ceremonies.

Properties and use

Uchu sanango is described as the dieta of will and decisions: the plant tones, strengthens will, teaches righteousness of action, helps correct mistakes and build practical plans. In Takiwasi materials and related sources this is accompanied by 'cleansing by fire' — irritability surfaces, strong inner processing, libido may awaken; then stricter execution and clarity of choice.

Use in dietas

Dieta with uchu sanango is suitable when a hard reset of will and clarity in decisions is needed — without fuzziness and procrastination. The experience can be harsh; the plant does not tolerate inconsistency. Guidance only by an experienced maestro (including one familiar with the Takiwasi line).

Precautions

Tabernaemontana contains alkaloids; overdose can cause serious effects. Do not use without guidance of a traditional healer. Contraindicated in pregnancy and severe conditions.
