Machinga

About the plant

Machinga is a purgative line in Shipibo lists of cleansing remedies. Botanical identification varies in popular sources; in tradition it is one of the plants of deep cleansing, 'removing a layer' from body and energy.

Properties and use

Machinga is used in cleansing protocols before or alongside other dietas. The aim is to free the body through intense cleansing so that sensitivity and receptivity to further work with icaros and dietas change.

Use in dietas

Dieta with machinga is described as 'removing a layer': after it one becomes more open to learning icaros and to contact with other plants. It is often included in the long preparation line of the curandero. Guidance by an experienced maestro.

Precautions

Purgatives require precise dosing and guidance. Contraindications are general for strong cleansing; do not begin without a maestro.
