Ayahuma (Couroupita guianensis)

About the plant

Ayahuma (Couroupita guianensis) is a large tree in the Lecythidaceae family, tropical South America. Known for spherical fruits and flowers on the trunk. The name is linked to 'head of the dead' (fruit shape); in tradition it is a protective tree, a demanding teacher.

Properties and use

Ayahuma is used for protection from evil spirits and witchcraft; for work with 'soul loss' and return of lost parts; in women's cycles and pain relief. Dieta with ayahuma for some practitioners lasts months (from several months to a year) — the plant is considered one of the most demanding.

Use in dietas

Dieta with ayahuma is for those seriously on the healer's path; it gives strong protection and the ability to work with patients' 'lost' soul parts. Not suitable for short retreats; readiness for long-term commitment is needed. Guidance only by a maestro who knows this line.

Precautions

Contraindications and duration are determined by tradition. Long dieta requires stable health and support; do not begin without a clear agreement with the maestro.
